Treatment with medical aids

In the conservative treatment of orthopedic diseases, medical aids are often used. These are intended to support healing and not restrict everyday life. Any medical aids must be manufactured for the patient with a great deal of expertise and fitted correctly. We would like to introduce a few of the best-known and most important tools here.

examples

- Insoles: Insoles are “laid” into shoes and compensate for various foot deformities, such as flat, skewed and splayfoot. They can also have a supportive effect. Soft padding, soft foam, cork and leather inlays are available. Furthermore, a distinction must be made between three-quarter or full soles, as well as plastic and sports insoles. Sports insoles have a particularly good cushioning effect. The extremely thin plastic insoles can even be worn in fashionable pumps. It is no longer the case that special shoe material is absolutely necessary for insoles. It always depends on the insole and the purpose itself, how the shoe has to be made.

- Bandages and orthoses: Orthoses and bandages can be used very well for the treatment of diseases and pain in the knee, hip, ankle, thigh, spine, elbow, hand or shoulder. Bandages are made from an elastic fabric material that can have varying degrees of firmness. Orthoses, on the other hand, can also be made of plastic and enclose the diseased joint without impairing its function. In the past, the bandages were always wrapped by hand. Nowadays they are available in a perfectly adapted form and the laborious winding is only rarely necessary. This ensures easy putting on and taking off for the wearer. Bandages and orthoses should always be sized by a professional.

- Prostheses: The prosthesis is a body substitute. It is an artificially created, functionally similar product that can replace a limb. Many prostheses are designed in such a way that a natural joint or gripping function is possible with them. It always depends on how much residual muscle and tissue is available for adaptation. Prostheses are made of carbon, various plastics and many other materials as needed. Especially with children and adolescents, more frequent modifications may become necessary, depending on their growth.

- Bodice and support corset: This is also an orthosis in the broadest sense. Corsets are used for many back disorders. As an example we would like to mention Scheuermann's disease, scoliosis, osteoporosis, kyphosis or hyperlordosis. The muscles of the back should be strengthened and strengthened in order to achieve pain relief. Pain patients often experience a reduction in symptoms. In addition, bodices and support corsets promote a straight posture, which in turn has a positive effect on freer breathing. An increased oxygen content in the tissue affects the regeneration of muscle and tendon tissue. Tendons and ligaments need a constant supply of oxygen to heal.
